So, you’ve probably noticed that some of the text on this site is written strangely.
There are really three sets of symbols in use on this site. Most of the symbols (and letters) on site are in the Roman Alphabet, used for English, Spanish, and many other world languages.
In ‘Linguistic’, two International Phonetic Alphabet symbols have been used.
1. All three of the “i”‘s are lax i’s, as found in the English words “bIt”, “hIt”, and “lInguIstIcs”.
2. The N (with a tail) is called an “Angma” or Velar Nasal and is found in the English words “siNG” and “thiNk”
In ‘Mystic’ (as well as elsewhere), someAlchemical Symbols are used.
1. The M shaped symbol represented Vinegar to the alchemists of the past
2. The C with a cross is an alternate drawing of the alchemical symbol for Antimony
These symbols are juxtaposed throughout the design for a reason. Although I’m training to be a Linguist, occasionally, what I’m discussing on this site might fall outside of mainstream linguistics. I’ll always do my best to be factually accurate in areas where facts exist (and corrections are encouraged), but I’ve chosen this site and this name to emphasize that this is my own personal site, with information from one particular Linguistic Mystic, rather than a site which limits itself to the kind of things you’ll find in textbooks.
This site exists both as a place for me to post the things that intrigue me, but also as a place for you to find and learn about things that might intrigue you. I’ll do my best to write in such a way that you don’t need a background in Linguistics to understand my posts, and always feel free to comment if you don’t understand something. I’ll post a clarification as soon as I can.
So, the mix of conventional linguistic symbols with ancient mystical symbols seems natural to me, in the context of this site. A mix of the old and the new, the ethereal and the concrete, our language and our lives.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading this site as much as I enjoy writing it!
