I saw your comment, and now that I think about it, you're right about the analogy.

You're making the computer allow you to do something, rather than actually making the computer do it itself. However, in a sense, the computer is still doing much of the work after you issue the command (you're not removing every file on your drive yourself when you sudo rm -rf /). So, perhaps it's a bit more like "sudo place bread onto the plate, sudo place jelly onto the bread, etc...", rather than "sudo make me a sandwich"

The analogy is wrong though. The 'sudo' situation is not about employing an authoritative mode of communication to force (or persuade, which are different modes from sociolinguist's point of view) 'someone' (i.e. the computer, system) to do something for you.

A different (role playing rather) analogy applies though: you cannot enter the classified lab in your work as anybody. Instead, the boss has granted you the option of wearing that fancy magnetic VIP badge that will get you past the ID scanner. Then you can snuck inside and make yourself a privileged sandwich using all those top secret ingredients.

You still get your own hands dirty in the end.
